Does Threads add watermarks to videos?
Videos on Threads are shown without a Threads logo or username overlaid on the picture. TikTok works differently: its built-in Save video option usually adds the TikTok logo and the creator's username to the saved file.
When you download a video with ThreadSave, you get the MP4 file Threads serves for that post. We don't add any overlay, logo or username. One thing to keep in mind: if the creator put their own logo, caption or watermark into the video before uploading, it stays. ThreadSave doesn't remove anything either.
For creators who want to reuse their own videos on other platforms, this saves an editing step.
Watermark comparison: Threads vs other platforms
Threads
No platform logo on the video. ThreadSave saves the file as Threads serves it.
TikTok
The built-in Save option usually adds the TikTok logo and username.
ThreadSave
Adds nothing and removes nothing. No logo, no re-encoding.
TikTok's watermark has been a major friction point for creators since the platform launched. When you download your own TikTok video to repost on Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts, the TikTok watermark makes the content look recycled.
With a Threads video that has no added logo, you can skip that step: download your own video and post it elsewhere without editing.
How to download a watermark-free Threads video
Get the Threads post URL
In the Threads app, tap the three-dot menu (⋯) on the post and select "Copy link". On desktop, click the three-dot menu on threads.com and copy the link, or copy the URL from your browser's address bar.
Open ThreadSave
Go to threadsaveapp.com in any browser on any device. No account needed.
Paste the URL and click Download
Paste the Threads post URL into the input field and click the Download button (pasting a valid link starts it automatically). Most links take a few seconds.
Save the clean MP4 file
Click the download button for the video. The file saves to your device as a clean MP4 with no watermark, no logo, and no compression beyond what Threads itself applied.
Why does this matter for content creators?
If you create content on Threads and want to cross-post it to other platforms, watermark-free downloads are essential. Here's why:
Reposting to Reels, TikTok and Shorts
Instagram has said publicly that Reels showing logos or watermarks from other apps are less likely to be recommended. Other platforms also prefer content that looks native to them. A video without another app's logo avoids that problem from the start. This applies to your own videos. Reposting other people's content is a copyright question, not a watermark question (see our copyright guide).
Professional use
If you're creating content for a brand, client, or professional portfolio, watermarked videos look unprofessional. A clean Threads download is immediately ready for professional use — presentation decks, pitch videos, showreels, or client deliverables.
Does ThreadSave modify the video in any way?
No. ThreadSave is a pass-through tool. It passes the media file from Threads' servers to your device unchanged. There is no:
- Re-encoding or compression
- Quality reduction
- Added watermark or branding
- Metadata modification
- Format conversion
The file you download is identical to the one Threads serves for that post.
Note on upload compression: Like most social platforms, Threads processes and compresses videos when they're uploaded. This happens before ThreadSave is involved. What ThreadSave downloads is the already-compressed version — we don't add any further compression on top.
What about photos — are they watermark-free too?
Yes. Photos downloaded from Threads via ThreadSave are completely clean — no watermarks, no overlays, no platform branding. They're saved as image files at the resolution Threads serves.
For carousel posts (multiple photos in a single post), each image is downloadable individually, and all of them are watermark-free.
