Short answer
On any device it takes three taps:
- Find the post and tap the share icon (paper plane) under it.
- Choose Copy link. The address is now in your clipboard.
- Paste it wherever you need it – a message, a note or the box on ThreadSave.
Copy a link in the Threads app (iPhone and Android)
The app works the same on iPhone and Android:
- Open the post. You can do it from the feed – there is no need to open the full thread.
- Tap the share icon (paper plane) in the row under the post, next to like, reply and repost.
- Tap Copy link. Threads shows a short “Link copied” note.
Can't see the share icon? Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner of the post – in most versions of the app it also has Copy link.
Tip: “Share via…” or the system share sheet also works – choose Copy there. Just don't share to another app and copy from it: messengers often add their own text around the link.
Copy a link on threads.com (PC and Mac)
On a computer the steps are almost the same:
- Go to threads.com and find the post.
- Click the share icon (paper plane) under the post.
- Click Copy link at the bottom of the window that opens.
There is a second way: click the post's date or text to open it on its own page, then copy the address from the browser bar. You get the same link.
What a correct post link looks like
A link to one post looks like https://www.threads.com/@username/post/…. Three things to know:
- It has /post/ followed by a short code. That code is the post – without it the link points somewhere else.
- Links copied from the app often end with
?xmt=…. That's a tracking tag added by Threads. You can leave it – ThreadSave works with or without it. - Older links use threads.net instead of threads.com. Both open the same post and both work.
Links that won't work
If ThreadSave says “This doesn't look like a Threads post link”, you probably copied one of these:
- A profile link like
https://www.threads.com/@username. It comes from “Copy profile link” or the share button on a profile page and has no /post/ part. - Text around the link. Copying a whole message grabs the words before and after the address. Paste only the part that starts with
https://. - An Instagram link. instagram.com posts and reels are a different service – ThreadSave only handles Threads.
- A shortened link from another app. Open it first, then copy the threads.com address it leads to.
Replies and carousel posts
Every reply in a thread is a post of its own with its own link. If the video is in a reply, tap the share icon under that reply, not under the first post – otherwise you get the link to the wrong post.
A carousel (several photos or videos in one post) has one link for the whole post. Copy it once and ThreadSave shows every item separately. More in how to download a Threads carousel.
Paste the link into ThreadSave
Open threadsaveapp.com in your browser and put the link in the box:
- Tap the Paste button next to the box. The first time, your browser may ask for permission to read the clipboard – allow it.
- Or press and hold the box and choose Paste. On a computer, click the box and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac).
Then tap Download. On iPhone the video goes to the Files app first – see downloading Threads videos on iPhone. If something goes wrong, check Threads video not downloading.
FAQ
Where is the Copy link button in Threads?
Under the post: tap the share icon (paper plane), then Copy link. It is also in the three-dot menu (⋯) of the post in most app versions.
Why does my Threads link end with ?xmt=?
Threads adds it to links copied from the app. It doesn't change which post the link opens, and you don't need to delete it.
Can I copy a link to a post from a private account?
You can copy it, but only approved followers can open it. ThreadSave only downloads public posts and never asks for your login.
Is a threads.net link the same as threads.com?
Yes. Threads moved from threads.net to threads.com, and old links still open the same post.
Got the link?
Paste it into ThreadSave and save the video or photos in original quality.
